Carnivore Conflict Reduction Team Highlights Producers’ Efforts and the Impact of Collaborative Partnerships

On May 6, Heart of the Rockies Initiative team members had the opportunity to highlight state funding to support producers engaged in carnivore conflict reduction efforts in the region through a media event at the Barnosky ranch near Sheridan, Montana.

Governor Greg Gianforte, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Director Christy Clark, and members of the press were on hand to learn about six formal agreements, facilitated by Heart of the Rockies Initiative, with local landowner-led groups to fund carnivore conflict reduction as part of a $2.25 million investment from the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF).

Heart of the Rockies Initiative Policy Director Nathan Owens said of the event, “Locally-driven projects made possible with this funding will be supported through collaborative partnerships among agencies, Tribes, NGOs, and community leaders, all stepping up to ensure that funds hit the ground and projects can be implemented efficiently and effectively to address local needs.”
